Question Fuse #8 and 9 problems

I have no power at my #8 fuse and nothing on this circut works. Also, my directionals will come on when the car is turned off, but they do not blink. If I turn the ignition to accessory or start the car, the directionals will not come on or blink. Also, the blinker lights in the tach never com on. Any suggestions on where to start troubleshooting these two problems? I suck at electrical puzzles!
Kurt
ps. I have replaced all my fuses with new ones and the fuse panel looks corrosion free.

The turn signals staying on is normal for all european cars, because most of the roads, country roads in Germany are narrow and it is against the law to leave your car parked on one of these secondary roads without leaving that turn signal on so traffic will be able to see your car. I'll look at my notes and help you with that problem tomorrow. OTTO

I just experienced a little fire behinde the gage cluster as I was troubleshooting. The blue/black wire that supplies current to the dash lights just burned off the insulation all the way back to the fuse box! ARRG! I just created another problem.

The wire looks pretty easy to replace. There is an octopus that branches off just behind the instrument cluster and a wire that goes back to the headlight switch. Dang!

The blinker lights in the tach are lit by a single bulb at the bottom of the tach. If you un-screw the instrcment panel and pull it out of the dash you can find the buld and trace it back to the fuse panel.

I just posted another reply about this. THis also happend to me. What worked for me was to look at the plug that connects the chasis wiring loom to the steering coumn. In my opinion this is an underestimated problem. When you look at you will see that one side has all the wires coming out of it and the other side has none. The problem is that one end does not have enough pressure to keep the two sides of the plug fully connected. What you need to do is smush them together or clean out the pins depending on how big the problem is. By the way, the parking lights (turn signals that stay on when car is parked) is on a different wire (I am pretty sure) and the blinker lights are guess where? on the end of the plug that does not seem to like to keep stuck together. BTW, it looks like the plug in the circuit board in the engine compartment.

Good luck - Mike
