74 1.8 L-Jet Injector Firing Problems

Hi All,
Trying to get the car back to life, has been 5 years parked in the garage. Dropped engine cleaned everything and put engine back in. Now I can't get it running. I find that the injectors do not fire when cranking. Upon trouble shooting one thread suggested with points closed turn key to run position and use a non-metallic probe to open the points, this should fire the injectors. No luck. I do have 12v measured at the resistor pack to each injector, double relay is picked and grounds are all in place and ecu case grounded as well. I removed the injection loom today and metered all the connections from ecu to all points, all connections have 0 ohms continuity. I was wondering if there was a couple more places for me to check and work towards??

Thanks all for the attention. I found what my problem was. "I" plugged the wire coming from the ECU to the wrong terminal on the coil, should be on the (-) side and I plugged onto the (+) side. After switching that the cable the pulses from the points now get back to the ECU to tell it to fire the injectors. She is ALIVE!!!

hi my 1.8 doesnt fire the injectors either if i unplug the harness from the injector and test each terminal at the harness they both have power key on engine off...is this correct or any idea what may be causing it? Does this sound like a short to voltage? Thanks for any help Bryan

The 1.8 powers the injectors all the time. The "dual relay" (hangs off the battery tray) sends powers through the resistor pack (also hangs off of the battery tray) to the injectors. The ECU provides a ground to open the injectors, rather than providing power the way the D-jet FI does.

so any idea why there is constant power at the injector on both terminals rather than a ground pulse on one terminal while cranking?

Hi Bronto914, the dual relay connections are very important, the voltage on both injector pins when key on is normal, the points breaking is what sends the signal to the ecu to fire (ground) one side of the injector connector. The cable to the single connection cable from the ecu will attach on the (-) negative side of the coil as will the points wire and the black/purple wire from your tach. Hope this helps. Where are you located??

so from what i understand there should be a black wire from the ecu to the negative terminal on the coil? Where is this wire on the ecu is it supposed to be in the harness? I uncoverd the wires in my harness from the ecu conector and every one of them is white. On my coil i have a green and a black w/purple wire on the negative side and two wires on one spade connector on the positive side. Am i missing a wire?

See my reply in your other thread; the FI wire is white. Is one of the wires on the (+) side of the coil white?
