I have a v6 chev. engine on my 914, then my tach do not work.
Can I use a 911 tach or I need to send me tach to be specially recalibrated ? Thanks Eduardo Castrejon Elbjorn |

You could just go to your local auto parts dealer and pick up a tach that will work with your engine. I think the 911 will work but it would need an adapter piece.

Hello
All late ( 1972 on ) Porsche tachs will work with nearly most ignition types. Pre 71 with ballast will work with most. If you have a 914/4 you need a 911 tach. Grüsse |

Roland Kruz: Thanks for your answer
Ok, then I can use a 911 tach without problem, and I don´t need a converter ? Thanks |

What kind of ignition is on the V6? If it's a standard "Kettering" (i.e., points-and-condensor) system, a very early 911 tach should work. If it's some kind of capacitive-discharge system, then the later (72+?? Not sure when the 911 went CDI) should work.
The 914-4 tach should work on a Kettering system, but it will read 50% too high. (50% more signals coming from 50% more cylinders.) If your four-cylinder one doesn't work at all, the later 911 tach might work. Not sure. Worth a try if you can find one to borrow. --DD

Yes, but there's electronic ignition, and electronic ignition. Not all are created equal.
If your V6 uses a CDI ignition, try a 911 tach. --DD
