Quiet exhaust for 71 914-4
Recently purchased a 71 914-4 that I am fixing up as a hobby. The original muffler has some leaks and is loud. I want a nice quiet muffler so I can hear the Type IV engine run. Love the car - this is not my "fast toy".
So, will a 411 OEM muffler fit my 914? I have a cut-out hole in the rear valance. I only need the muffler - the pipes and exchangers appear fine (car has great heat). Although I will know for sure if the exhaust pipes have any holes after the muffler is quiet. I don't want to spend $500 plus for a Dansk. I understand that the Bursch is still "loud" Last edited by tduncan001; 10-19-2010 at 11:12 AM.. |

I will imagine that the shape of the 411 exhaust will not fit behind the porsche bumper/valance. Loud is subjective.. so I can't be much help in suggesting an alternative to a stock muffler or a bursch.. or an ANSA.. etc.

AFAIK, the only mufflers that fit the "port-hole" rear valance are the stock ones. They also sound the quietest.
I don't think the 411 mufflers fit, but I may be wrong on that. --DD
