Wheel Designs and Interior Patterns
Hi:
I'm normally a 911 guy, and relatively new to 914's. Can someone please post a few pics, or a link, to stock/ factory option wheels (alloys, not steering) and interior seat patterns that were available on the 1973 2.0 914? Cheers - and thanks! |

There were three different steel wheels: 4.5x15 (early "standard" wheel), 5.5x15 (early optional wheel, made standard I think in 72), and the 5.5x15 "styled steel" wheel (the standard wheel in 73+ or 74+).
There were three different alloy wheels, all 5.5x15: Pedrini was available up through the 1973 model year. Fuchs were available from 73-76, and Mahle were available in 74-76. A few Fuchs wheels seem to have been made for the 1972 model year front hubs, as well. All 914-4 wheels were four-lug bolts. The 914-6 was originally available with 5.5x15 steel wheels, 5.5x14 Fuchs, and 5.5x15 Mahles. Those were five-lug wheels which were identical to those used on early 911s. The 5.5x15 Fuchs wheels may have been available as well; that is less clear--it may have been dealers that installed them. --DD

Thanks Dave. I found out that the ones I'm looking at are called "Fuchs special order - appearance package" and came with the car - likely at purchase, or maybe after market. Now, do you happen to know if the dark grey corduroy looking inserts were also stock to the 914 in '73, like they were in some 911's?

Corderouy inserts are period correct. They were an option. I recall the standard seat was completely vinyl.

According to Jeff Bowlsby's website, a black corduroy (possibly very dark grey?) was available in both 72 and 74. He does not have the samples listed for the 73 model year, though.
