Anyone go camping with a 914?

So I am currently looking for a 914 and go camping anywhere from 5-8 times a year. Plus that many road trips. I try to go when the weather is fair. I usually take a smallish tent 10'x10' max and a tarp. A folding camp chair, sleeping bag, pillow, lantern, clothes for 2-4 nights, paper bag of food stuffs and a small cooler. Anyone else camp out of their 914? Will I have enough room to take all this with me? I have an ext. cab pickup but wheres the fun in taking that? I wanna enjoy the trip. I camp at places that have a store nearby so I can always set up camp and then get my food n beverage supplies.

I recall seeing many "young" Drivers Ed folks camping out and the track and they drove 914s too! Plenty of trunk room in those cars (front and rear). Front trunk is deep enough to hold a cooler or sleeping bag.. rear is big enough for folded tent/chairs etc.

I will be at Road Atlanta in April for the Mitty in mine! Camp in the infield every year in a different classic car. This year is the 914s turn!

Get some ultralight gear and you can fit it all on the passenger seat!

I would say it depends on how far you plan to go. I like to carry some spares and tools when I roadtrip in my 914, which cuts down on the cargo space. Other than that, I'd go for it.

I used to do that with the old gf, with all and more. Everything you list x2 sleep bags, pillows and clothes, except cooler in the rear trunk. Cooler and small toolbox (including an extra clutch cable) in front trunk.

I bought some kelty day packs, and some special sleep bag bags from rei so that they rolled longer and narrower, that fit just right. Learn how to pack your 914, you can really cram a lot of stuff if you think it through.

Have fun!

Good to hear. I think first camping trip will be in May. Not sure I want to be in a tent in March at Yosemite. When theres snow I want solid walls and a heater.

The 914 is a great camping car. I've seen pic's of several trailer designs for 914's over on World. This was taken at Lake Winsboro in Texas. The rack on the trunk is a bike rack.

Porsche Crest Holds plenty of beer for more than 2!

A 16 gallon keg of beer fit quite nicely in the front boot of my 914 on a fun weekend camping trip to Laguna for the historics years ago.

Spare must be removed of course.

People walking by couldn't believe their eyes when showed that the bonnet actually closed!

The spare goes in the back; there's even a threaded hole for the hold-down bolt!

The larger of the coolers that I own fits in the front as long as the spare is in the back. With room on top for a couple of beach chairs, some towels, and some bags for dry snacks too.
