Steering Wheel Question

I just bought an OEM steering wheel to replace the aftermarket wheel that came with my car. Can someone tell me where the contact ring wire attaches? Also, should there be a horn stalk that fits in the center? I have the rubber piece, but not a stalk.

Thanks.

The 70-72 (I think?) cars have a different horn button setup from the 73+ cars. I am not that familiar with the early setup, but I believe there is another piece that goes in the steering column which the horn wire plugs into, and the "horn button" presses on that.

The 73+ cars have a horn button with a contact ring that bolts onto the back. The ring is a couple of parts, with the contact part being flat against the button, and the part that holds the button onto the wheel being attached with plastic insulators. The horn wire attaches directly to the contact ring (there should be a tab sticking up a little bit from it; mine broke off and we soldered another piece on to take its place). When the button is pressed, the contact ring touches the body of the wheel and grounds the wire, which trips the relay and sounds the horn.

I have pictures of the late setup (from my 74) somewhere, but I can't find them at the moment.
