Symptoms of Temp Sensor II pending failure??

I have a '76 2.0 that is stock w/FI. The last few mornings my car has started easily and idled smoothly which is normal. But by the time I get a few blocks from the house, it starts bucking, backfiring and stalls. It takes repeated starts and feathering the throttle for a few minutes before it smooths out. Then it runs normally. I suspect it is related to the FI transitioning from cold start conditions to normal running temperature. I disconnected the air temp sensor (Temp Sensor I) and it made no difference. Could this be symptomatic of my cylinder head temp sensor beginning to fail?

The sensor is fairly easy to test. Cold, it should be about 2 K ohms. Hot, it should be down near 100 ohms. If you get those type of readings, it's OK.

Check for potential shorts and poor connections to the sensor, these are common problems. I use a couple of tie wraps to keep the wire in position. Also check to make sure the plug wire is not touching the sensor wire, as it can induce a voltage spike in the wire which affects the ECU. Again, I use tie wraps to keep the two apart.
