Bill,
great looking car.
I found the parts manuals to be more help full during my restoration.I was able to look at an exploded view of the area I was working on and see what went where. The workshop manuals came in handy for procedures, like adjusting pedal controls, but most of that stuff is now online.
Good luck and I would love to hear more about your car, also post your location, you never know who is in your area and may be a great resource.

IIRC, the Porsche website has a PDF of the parts manual available for download. It may take some searching (probably through the "Porsche Classic" pages) to find it, but I think it's there.

Very nice find, congratulations. Where did that car come from? Can you post the VIN? Looks sweet.

Is that a spare deep rear valance? If you happen to have a spare one, I would be interested in one for my '71 914-6. Don't get me started on the heat exchangers....very nice.

That is going to be a very nice car when it is all put together.
Congratulations again.

Bill,

Just an FYI......
The speedometer in your 6 is not a 914-6 speedometer. It's from a 1970-1972 914 4 cylinder car. So if the seller stated the original mileage based on this speedometer, he may have mislead you. However, it looks like a nice original six.

No doubt, your six was a great find. However, there is absolutely no doubt, that is not the original speedo for your six or any other 914-6 for that matter. It's definately from a 1970-72 914-4 1.7 liter 4 cylinder car.

OMG! Please do not turn that car into a track car. It looks to be way to nice to do that. There has to be a ton of other 914's you could do that to. That car should be reassembled to as original as possible and maintained like that.

By the way, will you post the VIN and where the car came from?

Thanks again. Somehow a non six speedo ended up in that car. I have owned 3 sixes and that is a non-six speedo absolutely. Regardless, car is exceptional in appearance from what we can see. How about a ton more pictures for those of us that love these cars?

Wow, in deleting his post, I'm guessing ole William Cody is a little thin skinned and didn't appreciate my 37 years of 914 and 914-6 ownership, racing, concours and knowledge of authenticity.

No

Just realized that after 30 years of owning and racing porsches I love the cars but don't have time for the pompous egos associated with the hobby.
Remember it is always better to build yourself up at the expense of others.
Thanks for the warm welcome.
I won't be back.

Hey Bill,
I do not think that observation was meant as a put down, only that your low mile six has had a different speedo installed.
We all love these cars, and it would be great if you continued to post with info, and progress on your journey.
These cars are meant to be driven and enjoyed and I hope you do both with yours.

Just read this thread....did I miss something?? Please don't tell me the comment about the speedo not being original sent Mr. Cody away. I thought someone was just trying to be helpful with the observation. Again...am I missing something??

Yes, your missing (or you missed) some of his responses to this thread that he deleted just prior to going on his unwarranted rant. That is what my "thin skinned" response was all about. But other then that, you pretty much got the just of the thread. I think ironhorse got it right.

He had no reason to react like that, nothing you guys said should have been taken as insulting or pompous...

BTW, lovin all your 914's, trying to pick one up that i see advertised locally. Not that i need another car, but you guys understand.
