early vs late 914-4 struts
How can you tell the difference between the early (70-72) and late (73-76) struts. I understand the 320i calipers will fit the early ones without machining. I've got 2 sets...one's from a 74, the other's unknown, and they both look the same. I've also got a set of 914-6 struts. The difference between these and the -4's caliper mounting area is fairly obvious.
Thanks Ed

The difference that effects the BMW caliper upgrade is the caliper yoke. I think I have this right: On the early suspension the yoke is more recessed with respect to the disc (ie, there's more distance between the brake disc plane and the caliper mounting plane). If your brake discs are mounted, just measure the offset between the inside of the disc and the outside of the caliper mounting yoke. I can't remember if ealry and late brake discs are different or if the caliper mounting yokes are different or both.
