cv joint separation help

The inner cv joint had part of the gasket hanging out and one bolt was finger tight, I purchased new gaskets from our host and i removed the bolts holding the CV joint to the flange but it will not separate. I tried a nylon chisel and hammer no luck, i do not want to damage the mating surfaces with a metal chisel. anyone have a method for getting this apart. I do not want to remove the outer end of the axle.

Use a dead blow hammer and turn and tap, turn and tap, turn and tap while pulling on the CV and down on the axcel.

It could take a while but it will come free eventualy.

Garage
normally the gasket leaves a slight gap when you push in with a screwdriver--may give room to pry apart without damage to face.
