got my trunk open ... now have a few carbs ??'s
On my new to me 914 I could not get the rear trunk to open .. some one had done the reflector rear and I finally found the switch tonight to get it open ... was hoping not to find rust or a body and found these ...
![]() ![]() question is how do I tell what size they are and will they work on my 914 .. It currently has a 2.0 and I verified the number was in the right spot for a 2.0 it is set now with the injection removed and a single center carb on it .. I am hopeful these are correct for this motor .. so if any one can help .. it would be great .. they say on the side Weber .. made in Spain but I have not checked for further ID marks on them ... Since they are carbs, they are not "correct" for the motor. All of the 1.7s and 2.0s came from the factory with D-jetronic fuel injection.
They may be set up to work with your 2.0 engine; you will need to check all of the jets and such to figure that out. They're obviously Weber carbs; look for a combination of letters and numbers on the body of the carb such as "40IDF". --DD

Thanks Dave ... I will clean them up and figure out what they are .. the PO didn't know how to open the rear trunk .. I followed the wire out of the trunk thru the engine and pass compartment to the switch .. old school push button on the fuse panel looked like a bolt head .. pushed and POP trunk open .. hinges very tight and creaky opening and found that .. oiled hinges and now free as can be ...
The engine has a single carb at the moment .. but soon will have duals hopefully .. I figure a rebuild is needed at minimum .. any suggestion as far as jetting for a 2.0 here in nor cal ?? Thanks ..... Steve |

Got the gunk off the side and found they have stamped in the body 40 IDF 70 6G ...
I will check the jets and such .. Any one have a starting point for what I would need for these to work in my 2.0 ?? The elevation in Stockton is 15' above sea level on average (don't know if that makes a difference ? Also there are no velocity stacks in the air cleaners .. should i look for a set ?? The current set of filters are 31/4" tall .. are these correct ? or ? The Carbs look very clean on the in side .. the outside a bit of gunk .. should I rebuild them or ?? Check the jetting and idles and hook em up or ? This is all fairly new to me haven't done much carb work so excuse the "dumb" questions .. mostly I am a R&R shade tree mechanic ... with enough knowledge just to be dangerous .. I would rebuild them. They are the same carbs I run on my '73 2.0l. I am no use to you with respect to tuning them since I live at 5000ft and am no carb expert. I got professional help getting mine set up properly.
