It says that it's a 914 but...

It's got a "Ferrari 246GTS body" and a "Mazda 4 chamber rotary engine". Does that mean all that's really left from the 914 is the 30-year-old, dependable chassis?

If anyone here is actually interested in this vehicle, let me know. I can go and check it out for you. It is 10 minutes from my house and I'm looking for something to do on Saturday.

IIRC there was a guy a year or two ago who posted to all the 914 lists desperately seeking a 914 with a Dino body kit, although I thought the cars he described were professionally manufactured and sold as finished products. And I don't remember the Mazda engine aspect. Who knows.

Whatever floats your boat is cool, but sometimes I think it would be easier to make a list of conversions NOT done to 914s rather than vice-versa.

I'm not dissing anyone who likes this car, but for me, it's a turd. The Ferrari stickers on it are even more annoying, like a Honda Civic rice car with a stolen "M3" emblem on the back.

The original Dino 246GT with the T-top roof was one of the most beautiful and elegant cars ever made. The 914 Targa roof as a substitute does not cut it.

I like conversion 914's where the 914's identity has been retained, but either the motor, suspension, etc. has been modified for higher performance - even the V8 ones. But using the 914 as a kit car base for a rip off is not my cup of tea.

Wayne, I think you need to get more sleep...

You totally missed the sarcasm in Paul's statement.

OK, enough working on the website and the marketing and the book and the.... GET TO SLEEP!!

Guys, I happen to have that EXACT same body kit on my '76 2.0. How could anyone say its ugly???! To each his own I guess. I'm currently rebuilding it but have a big task at hand. I'm currently planning on eventually getting around to a 3.0sc swap.

BTW Pbanders, the real Ferrari Dino 246 GTS has a targa top and not a t-top. Sorry, I just had to mention it.

Actually that one on Ebay is very similar to the real Dino, though it could use more of a professional rebuild to make it more of a authentic replica (proper badges, eblems, etc in all the right spots). I'm definitely keeping mine classy and making it as authentic as possible. I'm even going so far as buying real Ferrari Dino parts (like tailights, emblems, etc) and retrofitting them to my 914. I'm still not sure what I will do with the interior. I might keep the dash somewhat similar and do what I can. Though, I was considering going so far as to buy real Dino seats, dash, etc and eventually retrofit everything into the 914. Hehe.....I was even considering, for awhile, going as far as buying the real 246 Dino exhaust and fabricating some adapters so that it would bolt on! Yeah, I know that's crazy! Don't worry though, guys, I am a die-hard Porsche fan for life. I love 914's and would have been perfectly happy with the stock body, though I paid next to nothing and basically got the Dino body free so I can't complain. I might as well go all the way and make it authentic, instead of doing a half-assed job.

That would be fun with an RS spec 2.7 or a 3.0 in it but I wouldn't want to throw a sack of cash at it to get it there
