LOL.... Yeah Dave, "somebody" should offer to toss over the measurements.
Hey, but the turkey and stuffing won't be on the plate for 2 days ! |
914-6 a/c
We start the process with a 911 compressor bracket. When we tried to fit the engine back, we realized we needed at least 3 inches of space for the compressor pulley. For me was out of question to cut the firewall.
After few discussions and the feedback from Mittelmotor, we took this route. Enclose some more photos on latest advance. :)http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1353584344.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1353584377.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1353584437.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1353584468.jpg ;) http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1353584496.jpg |
914-6 a/c
This week we reached the end of the project.
Martin charged the system, test for leaks and give me the OK on the installation. The 914-6 A/C produce a nice cool breeze in the first speed of the blower, and is capable of increasing the air flow and decrease temperature better than my 1977 930. Yes I know my 930 is not the best reference, when we talk about A/C. But is my best comparator. Also the system looks stock, and no invasive. One of the parameters I was looking for. My only reserve is the compressor bracket, but we will take care of this detail, later. Here the photos. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1354962296.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1354962375.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1354962433.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1354962465.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1354962501.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1354962545.jpg I am delighted with the result. Here a series of photos, of the finished project
Condenser in the same place as in the 4 cylinder cars. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1432639974.jpg You need to cut the original engine support, to gain belt clearance http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1432640083.jpg Front engine support modified http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1432640339.jpg Dryer is in the same position that Porsche use on the 4 cylinder cars http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1432640178.jpg Compressor position and bracket http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1432640451.jpg One year on the road, with no mayor problems and a nice cool cabin. There is a mayor concern. I do not like the compressor mount, looks horrible even if you do not see it. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1432640724.jpg I plan to look at this fact carefully in a near future. I bought a nice piece from a 911 bracket, I feel I can use it to strength the bracket and made it nicer. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1432640829.jpg Will keep all of you posted. Francisco |
914-6 AC Compressor Install
I decided to take on this project. I have acquired and refurbished a complete VPC system. Here are some photos of our version of the compressor bracket configuration used/discussed by others contributing to this thread. The install is on a 2.2 "S" motor built on a '68 L aluminum case. More to come as project progresses.

Scott, nice that our experience serves you.
Can you please post bigger photos, it will help all of us. Francisco |
Sorry, best I can do now...these were "progress" pics forwarded from my tech's cell phone. I will try to post better photos in near future.

Curious does mittelmotor still sell the AC compressor kit? I sent an email to them and got no response.
|
Hi, I never mentioned Mittelmotor selling kits.
Michael from Mittelmotor open the way to the A/C installation on a 914-6 without cutting the firewall. My A/C installation was done by Martin Ortiz martinortiz1969@yahoo.com For sure Martin can make the compressor bracket, the only complex part of the installation, the rest is the same 914-4 I do have a copy of the Porsche 914-4 A/C installation instructions, let me try to put it on this thread. Hope my comments are of use to you. Have a nice week end Francisco. SmileWavy |
Thanks Francisco!! I have a copy of the 914-4 A/C Installation instructions. I sent an email to Martin. Thanks for the help!!

Fine, If you need more info, just le me know
The best. Francisco SmileWavy |
Francisco,
My 914-6 A/C install was completed in April see my post from May on this forum...38 degrees F at the vents, my bracket design preserved the heater hose on the driver's side. Regards, Scott |
Scott
If you have detailed photos of your bracket, please share with us. I am interested on other solutions, specially if your one save the heater tube. Thanks Francisco SmileWavy |
Local shop did the bracket, best photos are those they sent to me via text message (posted previously) I did post some additional photos in May on this forum that will show some additional details. The shop created a gap that permitted the heater hose to be routed under the bracket by spacing a portion of the bracket away from the valve cover. If you look at the photo attached you will notice that the heater hose used was oval rather than round between the upper and lower connections where the compressor is mounted. The shop used a fitting that went from oval to round to make this work.

Do you guys have any better pictures of the compressor bracket? The compressor in the pictures hides the bracket. Also curious on what gauge metal did you use for the bracket? 14 gauge?
Also what make and model compressor did you use? Thanks!! Steve |

Sorry, but the only photos I have of the bracket being installed on the motor were those forwarded to me via a text message (previously posted on this thread) by the shop that did the work for me. Not sure about the gauge of the metal used, but I'm guessing 14 sounds about right...I'll try to confirm.

One note from earlier. (I don't remember if this has been mentioned in this thread or not.) The chain cases are not all that strong on most 911 engines, so it's a good idea to have the bracket supported off of the crankcase instead of them.

Can anyone share hi/low pressures and v-temps?!
|
914-6 a/c
The bracket was installed using spacers to separate the bracket from the valve cover and cam tower mounting points. Compressor has been mounted for over a year..so far no problems.
Not sure how to respond regarding the pressure switch...the A/C supply shop just sold me a receiver/dryer with a pressure switch mounted. I just connected the hoses and fittings and electrical connections to the unit. I am also unclear as to the "v-temp" request. |
