My installation dates from 2012, still free of any trouble.
I plan to work on the engine (smoke a bit) over the winter. The bracket will be re-engineer with an additional support on the engine block.
I used a Sanden compressor, the smallest I found, the 914 cabin is small.
Nice day

AC Bracket Photos

Hopefully this set of photos provides better views of the bracket design installation for the AC on my 914-6...

Using Air Pump mount for compressor?

Curious if anyone thought about using the air pump mount for the compressor?

Steve, if you have the opportunity to make pictures of the mounting bracket, we can have a better idea of the support, and its potential charge capacity. I never had a US specs 911, so I am not familiar with the air pumps.
Thanks for the idea.

I just took a look at my 914-6. The way the firewall is slanted, I don't think its possible to use a dual pulley off of the fan. The only option is a dual pulley off of the crankshaft.

Turboman 09-23-2016 10:20 AM

Yes Steve I agree, we only can use the crank pulley. But if the bracket of the air pump can be used, I want to look at the question.
Have a nice week end.

Steve, You may want to look at this carefully, the height of the air pump location may not be low enough to allow the compressor to clear the 914 firewall. Also presumes you will be able to relocate the pump bracket to the driver's side of the 914 engine bay as it appears that if it remains where it is mounted in the 911 engine bay it likely will not clear the battery?
Best Regards, Scott

My 75 914/4 had A/C. The pump is gone, the hoses are still there, and they cut the floor out of the front spare well for the condenser. It's my understanding that all A/C was dealer installed.

Scott Walshaw 09-28-2016 07:54 PM

you are correct...914-4 A/C was a dealer installed option using two suppliers, one of which was Volkswagen Products Corporation ("VPC") the other DPD Manufacturing Company, Inc. I think the VPC unit was a better design...apparently Porsche agreed as they installed it on the 916s with A/C...
