Angry Oh my dear god someone help me PLEASE

So I removed the drivers side turn signal today. Taking careful note what came off of where. I cleaned all of the electrical connectors very well. Reassembled the whole thing exactly as I removed it. And the god damn blinker wont work. Here are the symptoms.
Headlights on = dim light (normal)
Turn signal on = flashing dim and off in between
Head lights off = flashing dim

What the heck is going on?!?!?!?!?!?!?

Any body know the correct way it should all fit back together? There are three different colored wires

Green (which has two leads coming in)
Brown
Black

Thanks in advance for any help.

-Chris

I just looked at my car that has the lights out. There are three terminals, two go the same direction (horizontal) and one is vertical. The brown wire with no shield on the clip is the ground and should hook up to the vertical tab. The green with two wires hooks up to the top horizontal tab and the black to the one below. This is assuming that the light socket is neer the top of the car and the vertical tab is closest to the front trunk. Let me know if this works. Good luck

Okay, so I took your description and compared it. They were the same. However problem is now solved. I thought about it for a long time, and I realized that the wires WERE in the right places, but the bulb was not completely seated (or something) a light little tap (MAN WAS I PISSED) and it started working

Now there is a new problem though, when I turn on the directionals (either side) both left and right indicators blink at about half their normal brightness. What up wit dat?

Any ideas. Maybe i screwed the wiring up or something . . .

914's, gotta love 'em

You've just got a bad earth somewhere. Check & clean every connection from the bulb holder itself thru all the spade terminals back to the earthing point on the back of each headlight bucket.

I did the same thing years ago and also freaked out when it wouldn't work. Keep trying, you'll get it.

I think the first entire month that I owned my 72 I was chasing that same problem. I ended up replacing all of the bulbs and fuses and cleaned all of thier contact surfaces with sand paper. Worked like a champ!

Thanks for all the help. Looks like I am gonna spend Sunday cleaning off terminals, but what better way to show your appreciation for the teener. I am definitley gonna put bulb grease on EVERYTHING electrical, so she will go another 30 years!

Thanks All
Chris

Hey, Chris--come up to Partsheaven on Sunday AM! Porsche Club swap meet there, starting about 7:30 or so. By noon a lot of vendors will have left... There's a concours (car show) there too; it will be a chance to look at some nice clean cars.

Plus, you never know--you may find some parts that you just have to have!

Some of us are going out for lunch afterwards, though the location is TBD as yet.

I had the same problem and I put in a new/used turn signal relay that I picked up at a swap meet for $2.00. Still working to this day.
