Need help with a 912e running rich
I bought a roller 912e and purchased an original 912e motor. The harness was a match and went in with no problems. I start the motor up and there is huge amounts of white smoke(unburned fuel) coming out the pipe. I replaced the air flow meter and tried a different computer(just a test) from a vw bus. There is no change in running. The plugs foul out after 2 minutes of running. I found if i hold the gate of the AFM closed a little it will idle fine. I also find that removing the ecm plug will make it run great for about 3 seconds until the fuel is gone. There was noting changed since the motor last ran in the donor car a year ago. I do have a few un attached wires which I can`t figure out. Any suggestions would be apprieciated,
Kurt Williams Also i do have a leaky oil fill housing but the fuel mixture is far to wrong to blame that. I just got the new gasket and will install it.

Figure out where those unattached wires go. One might be for the CHT sender--if that is disconnected the car will run very rich.

Near the #3 spark plug. Left-front cylinder, 912E orientation. There should be a hole in the tin just aft of the #3 plug hole, and down a bit. The CHT wire should be poking out of that.
L-jet FI articles are available on http://www.type2.com . The 912E, as well as the 1.8L 914, used L-jet EFI. --DD

Dave you are the man !!!!!! I found that wire and plugged it in. Its 100% now and runs like new. Wow I cant believe that temp sensor could have that much influence over the fuel mixture. I also like the way it was hidden . Thanks a million for your expert advise.
