Long term use of gas stabilizer
If I'm like a lot of the others on this forum, my car spends more time in 'work in progress' than actually driving. I tend to get mine on the road for a few weeks or a month, then attempt another project on it that somehow tends to drag on for a month or more. (duties for work, family, too damned hot, etc
![]() So in order to keep the 'bad gas' syndrome down, I've started to use Sta-Bil, gas stabilizer whenever I start a new project that I know will lay up my car for some time. It occured to me that I'm using this stuff more often that I believe that it was really intended. That is I added it to 3-4 gas tanks this year already which means that it is burning through my system more frequently. I try to run the tank near empty prior to starting one of these projects so the total amount of gas stabilizer is reduced. However, it still adds up. So, I'm asking the collective wisdom of this group to find out if I'm asking for trouble later down the road? Or, am I worrying for nothing?

A couple of quotes from their site:
"STA-BIL® will stabilize fresh fuel and protect an engine’s fuel system up to 15 months when used as directed." "One more thing, don’t be concerned about over treating your fuel….pouring a little extra STA-BIL® into your gas will have the same results as a "perfectly measured" application. A little extra STA-BIL® will not harm your engine or fuel system." |

Thanks, it looks like I can't over medicate the old gal. My concerns were baseless.
