![]() I am still playing around with the gauge set - added LED lighting and a 914-6 temp gauge to the group.

I've been thinking about this mod for a while. How difficult was it to insert the temp gauge? Any pictures of the internals?
Thanks! |

This was so simple it was stupid not to do this years ago. The temp gauges from any 911 drop right in and you can take your choice of markings. They come with numbers or as shown. I tried to copy the 914-6 style and found info here
Porsche 914 VDO Fuel Level Gauge Information @ P914 Lots of great info and pictures. I did install a new sender and wiring as the old had issues.

The only down-side of that is that you lose your brake warning light. Unless you find or make another spot for it. At one point, I was going to use one of the CAT or EGR lights from a 75-76 914 dash, and just plug the bulb and wires from the brake light into it. I was going to do a similar thing for the low-fuel light, because I was going to put a fuel gauge down in the center console so I could put 911 oil temp and oil pressure gauges in for the combo gauge.
I wound up doing one of the triple gauges instead, which worked fine. Note that some 914 combo gauges do not have a top module you can swap out. Depending on the year, it might even be easier to start with a 911 combo gauge. The 914-6 and the two-liter Fours that did not have center consoles all had a combo gauge with oil temp on top, and the brake warning light was moved to another location in the middle of the gauge, and was a regular smallish round light. In the pictures above, the LEDs seem to create too many white "hot spots" for my taste; it may be better in person. Still, that's a lot of work and they look quite sharp! --DD

I believe the brake warning light tells you if your fluid is low or/and your parking brake is engaged.
Don't leave home with out it. I am with Dave on this one.

I bought a stand alone fuel gauge from North Hollywood Speedo and will just put that in my center console - then put the 911 oil temp/pressure gauge in the dash. $50 about and super easy!
