Angry Locked Key in Rear Trunk - HELP!

Yesterday on the way back from California I locked my Ignition key in the rear trunk. I have the valet key so was able to continue home. The problem is that I have stuff in the trunk that is important... like cheese (and its getting warm out) and medication.

I've seen where someone here was able to somehow dupicate half of the valet key twice to produce a key that opened the trunk...

The local locksmith says I can have them "punch out" the lock (tomorrow) and open it up to "see what the problem is." They tried to tell me that my red key was NOT my valet key. I had to tell them the key doesn't let him into the trunk BECAUSE it is the valet key!

I'm looking for a way to get this done that isn't quite so damaging so would appreciate ideas.

David

PS The Porsche dealer says that the VIN number won't retrieve the key information because the car is too old. I was hoping.....

I believe you can get into the rear trunk by unbolting the hinges in the engine bay. It is common for the pin to break on the rear trunk lock (giving the same condition yours is in right now), and I think that is the way you can get access to open it.

keys

Assuming your ignition key and valet key are original (and match), then I think all you have to do is get the Master (black) key blank and have it cut from the valet key. If you look at the keys from the end, on one of them the narrower sections at the top and bottom where they cut the "teeth" is offset in a top-to-the-left and bottom-to-the-right fashion and the other has the narrower parts offset the opposite (top-right, bottom-left). When you try to put the valet key into the trunk, it will not go all the way in because the back of the trunk lock has a cast piece that only accepts the Master type key. Good luck.

Well Guys... You are absolutely right. I went to the not-so-local Porsche dealer and bought 3 blanks for $42 plus tax.... Then I went over to a small key cutting joint and gave them the directions.... and they wouldn't cut the key. The man was so concerned that I was getting a different type of key cut and he was sure that what ever I was doing was not going to work. I told him tio cut it and absolved him from any damages. Once cut I opened the trunk right up! Now, I have 3 spares!!!!

Thanks for the help!

Depending on how full the trunk is and where the key was....

You can punch out the plastic cups that the targa top latches fit into, from inside the engine compartment. This will give you a "hand" into the trunk. As long as the trunk isn't too full, you could possibly retreive the key this way, maybe with a stick... It's times like this that you want a remote trunk release installed....

Hello

A other trick is to remove the hinge bolts and lift the rear trunk lid upwards. You gain enough room to robble inside and push the release trigger.

This operation has to be done if the aftermarked reflector lit with a remote selenoid fails and the installer either didn´t made a emergency pull wire or a acces hole behind the heat shield.
