The 914-6 came with 14" 5-lug Fuchs rims identical in appearance to the 15" 911 rims of the era.
Unless you have a sixer and are a stickler for authenticity, 15" Fuchs (whether 4-bolt "2-litre" style as on the 4-cylinder cars, or 5-bolt 911 style, like my avatar to the left) would be a better choice.

More wheel + less rubber within the overall diameter of the wheel/tire, plus lower profile tires, means crisper handling.
And, in this era where even mom's Camry has 16" or 17" wheels, it's hard enough finding a variety of tire choices in 15" tires. 14" tires are getting to be the 8-track tape of the tire world.

My own question is, "Why would anyone prefer a 14" rim?"
![]() The selection of tires is much bigger in 15s, and in the five-bolt wheels you can get much wider 15s than 14s. Originality is about the only real reason I can think of. Rust-boy from the Rennlist was recently looking for performance-oriented tires for the 14s on his Six. Selection was very limited indeed... --DD

I just put 6x15 5 bolt Fuchs on my 76 2.0l with 205x 50's tires. No problems! I had the rear hubs drilled and new front disc's drilled and the hubcentric part machined off so I could use the 911 Fuchs. Worked great! These were early windmills so the offset is right.

I would not recommend drilling and using lug bolts. I think that drilling and using press-in studs is a good way to go, but I think that bolts are somewhat iffy.
Remember that the front hubs and front rotors are the same thing on four-cylinder 914s. That means drilling again every time you have to replace the rotors. (Hint: Buy new rotors for this!) For more info on the five-lug conversion, see the tech article of the same name elsewhere on our site! --DD

I think its a nobrainer to use the press in studs on the conversion to 5 bolt. Besides with the bolts its tough to hold the wheel and line up the holes and then screw the bolt in! With studs (German one of course) you just pop the wheel on and screw the nuts on.
On the rear hubs, I did use the later style hubs but after I had the studs pressed in, I tack welded each stud so it couldn't come loose or spin on me. Once the rears are bolted together there is plenty of meat to hold everything together vs using the early style hubs. Have fun installing the new rear bearings...god what a job that is! Geoff

Khumo makes a 195 60 14
4000 RPM at 80 MPH. Oh my ears.... The right fitment would be 195 75 14 I have 15's...but the 14's are on the car while I'm painting. Damn the 14's look nice though. So much work, on just 14's. I wish I knew who the previous-previous owner was. I'm just afraid it was George Hussey.... http://home.san.rr.com/pb914/gallery/fuchs6.html The 15's are getting my 205 60 15 Yokohama AVS dBs. Very sweet tires.

14" Fuchs?
FWIW, the '69 911 T was available with 14 x 5 1/2 Fuchs. I'm not sure about 911 E's or '70-71s, though. I have seen a few T's running them. I thought (just a guess) that maybe it might have been a less expensive alloy wheel option (15" steels were standard for the 914-6 and 911) back then, compared to the 15 x 6s. Back then, not too many cars were running 15s. Caddys, Lincolns, Riveras, station wagons, Monte Carlos, Electra 225, usually big, heavy cars with VW and Porsche as the only small cars that I can think of.... 15s came standard on Vettes, but were an option on some GM muscle cars. Ferrari was still running 14 " Mich XWXs. As far as road handling cars/tires, there was Porsche and Corvette, so there was a larger tire selection back then for 14s. Type II VW (bus/pickup) had 14s because of the tire size/selection that could carry the heavier loads. I think that the Mich XWX was THE street tire back then, after that maybe the Pirelli CN36. Goodyear had their Polyglas, Firestone had Wide Ovals, domestic tire sizes still had letters. HA! Just my misguided opinion/ramblings. Some of the 356 C/SC guys want the 14x5 1/2s for their cars (or used to).
