Window Scraper Trim Install

Hi - My 2YO grabbed the scraper seal on my driver's side door and pulled it out about 10" - I tinkered with it for more than 15 mins and made no progress getting it back in.



Anyone ever replace this? Is this something that I need to completely remove then slide in? I've scoured the web and cant really find anything other than sites selling the trim piece. Tips appreciated.

the rubber has a round section on the bottom that fits in the metal piece slot. usually remove completely and grease to allow sliding in easily. I grease both the rubber and the slot. it just slides in from the door end towards the window section pretty easily. don't need to use sharp objects to force in (less chance of slip to hurt paint).

Follow up - Bought a small tube of grease for this... It worked like a charm and took all of 5 mins.

PS dish soap also works well on this part's installation. Simular technique is used on the engine tin to body rubber seals. A silicone grease, would also work well.
Avoid grease types that may attack the rubber. Some rubber and some grease types are not compatible. Over long term exposure the rubber can be destroyed.

Watch out the 2 year old will be letting the air out of the tires before long.


One nieghborhood kid a long time ago, once decided to run the garden hose in to his parents station wagen, and turned on the water. Did I mention he copied Daddy, and properly put the hoses in the gasoline filler. Tank full of water. He thought he was helping out.

then there was my little kid brother who put dirt in the oil filler on the car I was building. Sure the body was off the frame so the engine was accesable, but who would have thought? I asked him (maybe six years old) how this sand get in here?, He told me straight up how he did it, and did not think anything wrong of it.
Just like the Tonka trucks, fill them with sand and play.

Of course you and me never did anything like that.
