old points connections
Need to install my points again (melted ignitor) and can't remember how they connect up....the wire from the condensor is connected to the POS+ on the coil right? and the gap between the points should be .40thou right....?
Its been a while since I've used these things......help appreciated Cheers - |

The wire from the points goes to the condensor, then that wire goes to the (-) terminal on the coil. (The wiring diagram shows this, too, though it calls the terminals by number instead. But the numbers are on the coil too...)
Points gap is in the Igntion section of Haynes. 0.016" is the gap. That should give you a starting place for setting the dwell angle. --DD

Cheers everhelpful Dave, i worked out the wiring connection when the fuel pump (takes pos from coil) wasn't working.....then felt the lead from the condensor -red hot.....
![]() Dave the gap mentioned in the haynes manual is very small -so thats the maximum the points will open when they're on the cam? cheers |

That's right, that's the maximum they will open.
BTW, I would never run a high-draw device like a fuel pump off of the coil power lead. I take it your car is carb'ed? If so, install the FI power relay (2nd one from the front on the relay board) and connect the pump to pin I of the T-IV connector on the board. (That's the right-front pin of the four-pin connector at the left-rear of the board.) Oh, and make sure the fuses on the board are there and in good shape. http://www.pelicanparts.com/914/parts/Electrical/914_electric_73E.jpg This will isolate the fuel pump draw from the coil. It will still run any time power is going to the coil, but it will take the large load off of that circuit so all your power goes to the coil itself. --DD
