Hi, I have numerous 914 gauges and am trying to get one good set for a 914/6 replica. I have the correct 150mph gauge that has an issue with the speedo not working. I have already done the odometer repair but still have little or no speedo on the bench test. Is there a way to use parts from my numerous 120mph gauges to repair the 150mph gauges I have?

I think the parts are different. However, someone may have done this before.

I opened a post in our forums. A Pelican community member may be able to answer your question.

You can try it, but we can only guess what the calibration would be after you finished. The needle deflection is caused by a magnet spinning close to an aluminum cup. It generates "eddy currents" in the cup, which spin the cup in the direction that the magnet is spinning. The cup is attached to the shaft of the needle, and a clock-spring pushes the needle back toward 0.

So some combination of new magnet, cup, and spring could make the speedo move again. But chances are it wouldn't match up with the markings on your speedo.

The best suggestion I have is to clean everything up, make sure the needle moves freely and returns easily to its 0 stop, and try the original bits again. If that doesn't work, I'd send take it over to Palo Alto Speedometer (who are local to me) and have them deal with it. Or mail it to them, or to North Hollywood Speedometer. Or if you have a decent VDO shop in your area, they should be able to deal with it easily.

just send all your gages to PAS - Palo Alto Speedo - they will build it to work & look the way you want it

- last one i had done cost about $200, but prices may be higher now
