heater flapper box connection question

73 2l, how do flapper boxes connect to longs?do they use flexible hose or is there another connecting sheet metal piece?

If I remember correctly, they connect to the round metal opening in the long by a wire reinforced length of rubber ducting. In the very old days the factory sold an actual serial numbered correct length piece and the appropriate hose clamps. Now days you will probably have to use generic hose from a race shop and their clamps too?

As a side note, on both our 914s, there was no ducting of any type inside the long. just the open box section. I have seen some that did have a paper sort of tube but I doubt that is necessary.
