The other cars I looked at before getting my teener were a Datsun 240Z and 510, late 60's mopars and stangs, and some 911's (a little too spendy), 928's, and 944's.
I have driven an original owner '73 DeTomaso Pantera that is in immaculate condition (step-fathers that only has 30K miles), what an awesome car, massive power and speed and it handles great. Not too fond of having to drive it without shoes on (shoes were hitting both the gas and brake at the same tiime) and having my head firmly pressed against the headliner (yes I'm on the taller side).

I parked my 914 next ti it, and my car looked like a full 4" higher than this red beast.
Hmmmm.... Are we talking the same car, I wonder? The blue Pantera I know is almost as tall as a Vette! (C-3 & C-4 Vettes are huge cars!!!) My 914 was dwarfed by it, by a good 4" or more! He says that he never had a problem. I assume like all other cars, the owners descide what condition their cars are kept in, some running, some not. That's why I was careful to say "that particular example". ![]() I still think that the Giulietta Spider and the 550A Spyder (different spellings, yep!) are two of the most all-out gorgeous cars that I have ever seen in my life!! I may some day own a Spyder replica... It would be nifty to have one to drive on the street!! --DD

Since this thread is moving towards dream cars and farther away from practical step-ins for the 914.. I think I'd have to go with a Lancia Stratos.

money no object - perfect early 911e or s targa with a hard rear window
money matters - 944 or 944 Turbo with sunroof our other cars currently are a 79 MB 300TD (serves as truck) and a 2001 Golf TDI (50 MPG) that was near-totalled yesterday. The 914 is my daily driver "have fun in the sun" car so I would replace it with a similar vehicle. Since we may have to replace our Golf now, the Jetta Wagon TDI is at the top of the list as our 20,000 miles per year car. |

Gotta be a BMW 2002!
Those 2002s are a blast to drive when they're suped up a bit. My friend has had a few and I got to drive hers all the time. It was awesome. Right now she's selling one because it was unreliable and it breaks my heart because they're so dang cool. I definatly would own one of those. Maybe once I'm done with college I'll have both since the 2002 seats four. Or maybe a custom 4 seater 914. =) Just kidding.

I had been looking at a Saab Sonett (to replace one I had long ago) when I decided to get a 914 (to replace one I had ...). Before considering a Sonett I was thinking of the new Mini.

I'd like a 1998-2001 Crown Victoria, the P71 setup. With a VortecS supercharger, Flowmaster exhaust, Black, with black leather interior.
Or now I'd just like the new Murcury Marauder. My dream three car Garage is a Jeep Wrangler, 914, and the Marauder. Ed Hachtel |

Simple-
VX220. Importing would likely be easier than all the little issues we love to sort out with even the finest example of a 914. |

I think you all are way off base.
I have a real car for the family (Jeep Grand Cherokee) A POS truck to take large objects to the dump, pick up large objects from the dump, and to drive while working on the 914 A 914 to work on Last year I bought three (3) Opel GT's. Remember them? I like a car with Character, fun to drive, EASY to work on, and won't leave me stranded. So what was with the Opels? I still catch hell. Karl |

I'd have a '69 Karmann Ghia. Or possibly a '66 Beetle. Hey I'm a sucker for old Deutsche Luft!

I was looking at Karman Ghia's back in '87 when a co-worker's told me his dad had a 914 for sale. Had bugs in high school and considered these two the next steps up in power and sportyness. The ultimate back then would have been an early 911.
Nowadays, once I get the same 914 off the rotisserie and transplant a V8, I'd still like to get an old 911 and another 914. Put the 911 motor in the 914, then a V8 in the 911. Ed

Glutton for more punishment
I took on my 914 as a project many years ago. Now that it is about as close to being "finished" as I'll probably ever get it, I have found another project that I'd like to tackle.
Not far from where I teach is a 1960 356B just sitting on four flats. Exterior is rough, but interior is complete. Wife says NO WAY. I can still dream though. DP |

`67 austin cooper s a good driver in city traffic will make any other car on the road look like a fool. and when you approach 100 mph you jump on the brakes and let the driver of the contach s fly by and get arrested by the chp.
