914-6 Brake Improvement
My 914-6 needs an overhaul; yes the engine still on its original pistons and barrels, close to 250K miles, burn some oil…………… seems the time has come to open and improve the engine. But before I put the engine down, I plan to improve the brakes.
The front brakes, an easy decision, new struts and aluminum 72/72 S calipers. The rear, I want a more elaborated solution. I want to use ventilated discs, with the original calipers rebuild and suit to use those discs. I know I need to split the calipers and fit a spacer. Few years back, my old friend Jim Pasha gave me the part number of the spacer. I lost the reference. I know that is the same spacer of some stock calipers used on 70s Porsche Does any one of you have the reference? Or the info about the calipers equipped with the needed spacer. Early M calipers have a spacer that fits nicely. It can be a bit hard to find them, though.
You could simply send your rear brakes to Eric at PMB Performance. I think he makes his own spacers. He is also pretty much the expert on 914 brakes. He can also set you up with the rotors. I knew Jim as well, when he lived in California. --DD

I think the spacers are available but the right size bolt may be an issue. But Dave is right, Eric at PMB is your guy.

this has been discussed many times on this site - do a search
the quick answer is oem 914-6 rear calipers with spacers and 911E vented rotors - i have that set on my m471 car as built in Germany - can provide a few pics if ya want .

Turboman, if shipping and customs is too much of a hassle for you to send your calipers off, I bet that Eric would still be willing to send you all the bits you need to do the rebuild and conversion yourself. That at least reduces the shipping hassles to one-way. He has a good illustrated rebuild procedure for the rear calipers in the "Classic threads" section of the 914world BBS, as well, which should take the surprises out of it for you. --DD

The spacers and bolts come from a stock vented 911 rear caliper 1969 into the late 1970's, so not a problem to find. The metal "+" spreader is from the same caliper. The pins though are unique to the GT caliper so contact PMB for those. You will probably need a spacer to use the 911 brake rotor, or you could find the GT rotors as I did. Although I do caliper rebuilds myself, my solution was to send the calipers to Eric at PMB for the conversion and restoration.
