Where can I find a real 914-6GT or M471?
Okay, anyone know where I can get a real 914-6GT or a six with the M471 package. The only 471 I know of is the one that Atlanta has - I have never seen one since that one. How many did they make?
I have also never seen a GT or one of these M471s come up for sale. We keep seeing those 916s, but not the GTs. How much are they worth? Anyone have one of these rare beauties? Not that I have $$$ burning a hole in my pocket, but I'd rather have an M471 than a Boxster... -Wayne

It would be sold to you as a business deal.
It has been parked since 1972 with only 14k some odd miles on it. No engine or trans, otherwise complete. Its on Kerry Morse's GT list. This is the real deal. It was sold by Art Bunker in the early 70's. Art's dealership was one of the few authorized GT conversion places in the USA. The car was shipped to him and during transit Porsche pulled out of racing in the US. This left 4 cars that came into the US with GT vin numbers but where never converted to GT. They still have GT suspension and brakes. B |

I remember there was also a black 471 for sale a few years ago, it was in pieces but as far as I know, complete. I think the asking price was $25k on that one.

I'll try to keep the number out of the public eye.
Selling a car like this, is basically like hiring somebody. I interview them and decide whether they are a good candidate or not. Wayne and I could do some pretty cool stuff with this car. It needs to be a show car or a "spokesmodel" for some company. B |

Llew Kinst has been selling his for a while. I'm not sure if it's still on the market or not. This is the one that had been converted to turbo power at some point, the body changed beyond all recognition. It was "restored" (I wonder how much of the original body was left??) a few years ago, and he's been selling it now and again since.
I can try to find the info I have stashed, but I don't know when I'll have time... ![]() --DD

There is another silver M471 complete for 65k in the Kansas city area.
Brumos Porsche squashed me by out bidding me on one of 3 black M471's sold. "Imagine that" (this was the car written up in Pano several years back) It was owned by a banker in North Texas (I went to school with his son) B |

I have spent several hours going over Llews car. The rear trunk section and part of one inside fender well has been replaced.
No more than what somebody would do repairing a wrecked race car. I'm really really tired of the rumors about Llews car. After spending SOOO much time around 914 tubs and seeing (if not doing) plenty of repairs to them... it is original. People who have NEVER even made a rust repair or a body damage repair have NO basis to even make a negative comment about his car. Some of the 914 people are crap. B |

Derek, that was it. It was pristeen. The MFI pump crapped out and dumped raw fuel into the engine. The car was kept about 300 yards from my shop in another shop (Arlington Texas)
I was having a hard time coming up with 25k at age 25/26. The car was bought in LA. and shipped back to the factory for the black paint job. The original owner was a prominent "Hollywood" producer. The car started out as a Orange 9146. I peeled the sound deadening back one night when it was in my buddies garage. I first saw the car in his garage at age 19. The first thing I did was run my fingers under the lip of the flare to see if it was real steel. I didnt really know what a M471 was at that time. Then I started noticing all the trick things about it. Man.. this brings back a flood of memories. The Texas owner lived in Grand Prairie and was a prominent banker in the North Texas area. I went to High School with his son David. The banker also owner 2 356 convertables that where fully restored. If I recall correctly, he left the M471 in the Arlington shop when they moved to Florida. The shop owner was on his ass to get the car out of his shop. The banker than became ill while in Florida. B |

Check this one out:http://www.dgi.net/914/carads/6carads1.html
(Go to the bottom of the page) It was listed for sale in Hemmings Motor news just a few months ago. The owner I believe is Doug McAllister of Lenexa KS. I did not call back in June but the phone number here was the same as in Hemmings. |

I was exchanging email with the owner of that car, for some reason I thought the body was in "rough" but not bad shape. so much for my memory. the pics I got didn't show a whole lot as I recall. I do remember the MFI problem now that you mention it. I had the money, but didn't have a place to store it (no house at the time). I really wanted an M471 back then, just had nowhere to put it so I went with a black 928GT instead.

Thats it Marv.
I knew it was in a "Kansas" name. I'm thinking this is a sister car to the silver one I posted the pic of. Both cars where sold at the Art Bunker dealership. B |

Derek,
I was a shop owner at that time and could just barely keep myself fed with work and bills. I was doing computer work on the side just to make ends meet. Damn..this is almost sad. B |

it is very sad now that I think of it. at the time I was 25/26 also had known about M471's, but didn't really appreciate how infrequent they are. I had the cash in hand, I should have bought it and put it in a storage space for 2 years until I got the house. I could be walking downstairs now to see a nice complete M471, but all I see now is a '73 2.0 cut into pieces!
so what's the deal...who has it and what are they doing with it? |

The key with the black cars was: It was special ordered BLACK.
Even in 1973 black was a special order. Something like 300 black cars built in 73. So.. having a M471 that is factory black is very very rare. I'm betting that DougM still has his silver car. B |

I really want to hold onto this silver M471 and make it a show car, but the timing is wrong right now. I*think* if it sold to Wayne, he would work something out with me so SSI could use it as a show car.
I work well with the race people, but the concourse people is who I need to complete my circle of Porsche people. This car would offer me the chance to "rub elbows" with the wealthy concourse guy's. B |
