Temp gauge questions
I want to install some temp gauges in my car. What size fitting is the stock oil temp gauge on my '74 2.0L? Also, did the 914's ever come with a cylinder head temperature gauge? If so, where is it located and what size is the fitting? Thanks.

I believe the stock oil temp sender fitting is M14. It's up above the two-bolt "taco plate", the sump plate on the left-front corner of the bottom of the engine. (To see why it's called the "taco plate", overtighten the mounting bolts and watch it fold.)
All the CHT gauges are aftermarket. You can actually hook up the FI's CHT sender (Temp Sender II) to the stock oil temp gauge. No numbers, but the needle will move to the right as the head heats up. Note that you cannot have the sensor plugged into the FI at the time!! But if you have a tapped hole in the left-side head, you can use that for a general indication of hotter or colder... And use junkyard parts for it! The ring thermocouple sender under a spark plug is a more accurate way to go. That must be matched with its own gauge. --DD
