Porsche crest
Just doing a little cleaning, looked at the hood and stared at the Porsche crest. I know the prancing horse is the symbol for the Town of Stuttgart, but what the heck are those symbols in the upper left and lower right stand for?

Those are cross-sections of your car's sheet metal with rust flaking off.

It is the family crest from a Stuttgart/Bravarian family that were friends of the Porsche family - their name escapes me at the moment. There is an article in one of the early 90's Pano's that describes how Dr. Porsche decided on the logo for the company.
As a side note, the Stuttgart crest (Horse) is part of the logo for 2 different auto manufacturers - Porsche and Ferrari. Supposedly, one of Enzo's friends was an Italian fighter pilot who shot down a German Aircraft during WWII, the friend took the Staffel marking off of the plane and hung it over his desk after the war. Enzo saw the horse on a yellow background and thought that it would make a good logo (slightly modified) for his company. AFJuvat

The funny shapes are stag horns, and are part of the crest of the local German state. (Baden-Wurttemburg, I think?)
The cavallino rampante (prancing horse) was used as a logo by a number of car and motorcycle manufacturers before WWII. Ferrari adopted it after the war as being appropriate for someone who made fast cars. Porsche adopted it for similar reasons. Most of the other pre-war manufacturers did not survive the war, or were absorbed by larger companies after the war. --DD
