Started a web site to track the progress of my 914-6 GT streetcar conversion.

Don't get too excited. I haven't done much actual work on the car yet. Most of the time I have spent over the past 3 months has been gathering parts and doing research on what I want and finding the parts I need.

quite a stock pile of parts you've come up with! your car looks in great shape as it is. so when do you think it'll be completed?

It's off to the body shop in about 4-6 weeks. I'm sure that will take a few months. The guy is slow, but good.

Engine will take 4-6 months to build (shop is busy and I want to gather the right parts).

I'm saying next summer (to be realistic).

BTW, the spare parts are in my guest bedroom. It feels like an auto store in there!

On your home page, how did you get Brad Anders car to be yellow? It's really a 911 color not a YPAF! Nice site

hey, i was in a small local hardware store today and saw some steel U bolts that looked perfect for the firewall belt mounts. they were 5/8" diameter x2"x5", the bottom of the U was 2". the uprights were 5" and threaded. you could always cut to length and cut new threads. check out a "nut & bolt/fastener" store and you could probably get stainless.

oh ..... when you did the door handle repair .... what did you do about the shaft that the handle pivots on?? it's kinda riveted over on the ends. you had to drill it out, right?? how did you replace it?? i was thinking of having some handles recromed, so they would need to be dismantled.

Some photographed is car and then did some digital magic using photoshop to make it yellower and added the 914-6 logo.

There is a poster available from Pelican of the same image.

Regarding the door handles. I purchased the repair piece from AA. It's a repro piece. It's the main body of the handle. I did have to drill out the riveted shaft, but AA included a new replacement bolt, washers and hardware. It wasn't too much of a pain to redo.

I use too fix fix outside door handles using aluminum angle filed and fitted to the handle. Don't drill out the pin/shaft that the handle part pivots on. File the bottom of the pin off with a fine file and you can push the pin out. And drive it back in from the top and it will stay.

If anyone one has broken outside handles, I can fix them-or show you how.

Thanks for taking the time to document and shoot pics of everything. Very few people actually know what it takes to build a car of this caliber. If it doesnt make you puke.. put together a excel spreadsheet with all the prices for everything that you have purchased. You can then save it as a HTML page and upload it to your website. I would really like people to see what it actually costs to build a nice car. I havent built one from the ground up where I kept track of everything.

Good job. Its people like you that keep the 914 flame alive. Instead of people seeing a primer'd POS 914 at the gas pump.. they will see your car.

Cool site, Karl! I am learning the same stuff (site building and car building).

Two questions:

First, you said you were going to have another set of those Fiat door pulls. How much? I don't care for 914 map pockets/armrests either.

Second, what should I do if I don't have a guest room to open my own FLAPS? Answer: Marry a lenient woman (I did). Check out our bedroom

While it was raining, here in Seattle, I sand-blasted in my old house's laundry room!! With a little hand held, gravity fed blast-o-rama.
