Hmm, maybe a Bus motor mount bar???

Whatever it is, it's still not right and is causing your problems.

When you get the correct bar, do not use the rubber outboard mounts to attach it to the car! The bar will sag and the rear shift rod will hit the edge of the hole and you will still not have 1st/rev. Use the late motor mounting scheme complete.

Ok, here you go. The top mount system is the late system you need. The bottom is the one you have.

Actually, if you look carefully--the bottom one is not quite what he has. Very similar in how it all goes together, but not quite the same part... It seems to be something else entirely, hence my speculation about it being a Bus motor hanger.

Anyway, what he needs is very definitely the top set of stuff in your diagrams. That is quite true.

It's the CD-ROM that Porsche sells/sold to their dealers. They will not sell it to anyone who isn't one.

A while back, someone hacked the copy protection and now copies of the PET are all over the place. Porsche comes down on people who advertise it publicly, but there is only so much they can do...

I have one of those bars. It came off of a late production 72 right before they went to sideshift.

I have only seen 4 of them in my short 16 year 914 span.

I'll show you the one I have here at the shop DD.

the bar shown in the bottom diagram is the one that came off my car(72') before the swap. the one on ians car certainly appears to be a cast piece. i've gotten a bit lost in the replies, what is the correct application of the bar currently on his car?

The one currently on his car is for the tailshifter.

That is a rare OEM forged crossbar for tailshifter application. I have only seen one before, also on a '72.
You need the one with the large hole in it, for the shift rod to pass through.
