Pricing a stock rebuilt 2.0
Hi gang,
I have had a 914 for 31 years and have never completed the project. I came into a collection of German made factory parts that someone had collected up many years ago for a rebuild that they wanted to do. So, I rebuilt an excellent core with new loaded cylinders, all the bearings, new valve guides and valves, lifters, and the old school factory gasket set. Now a guy wants to buy the car, which has a decent 1.7 in it, and I have not told him about the 2L engine. So, my question is, what is a stock rebuilt 2.0 with quality parts in it worth? I also have all of the D-jetronic system parts that go with the engine. The harness for it has not been reconditioned. Leon (in Alaska) |

I've seen re-built 2.0L long blocks going for $3500-$4000. If you finish that off with the OEM injection and break it in - add another $1500-$2000. Your location could either work for you or against. I wouldn't think there's a lot of 914s in Alaska so rebuilt type 4 engines are probably hard to find. But a stateside buyer may be looking for a discount to help with shipping.
