Rear shocks
Had the car on a hoist trying to install a stock Dansk muffler. No luck as the previous owner had filled in the dent in the rear valance perfectly (with a lovely welded insert) and the exhaust pipe needs it. So the Ansa one goes back on till I figure what to do next.
I noticed the rear Konis seemed to be hard up against the control arm. The bushes in the lower end of the damper seem worn or distorted. Is this a problem? If so do I need to replace the dampers or are there replacement bushings. Or is a spacer missing? The shocks themselves seem quite firm so I was wondering if there is a simple fix to re establish some clearance. |

Some threads just need some images to understand and provide possible solutions.

![]() Here are some photos. Someone did a really nice job in the past of closing the exhaust cut out. ![]() I would have thought there ought to be a couple of millimetres clearance between the edge of the damper's body and the arm. ![]() Both L & R are the same. ![]() |

Bummer about the exhaust cut out?? some people?,the shocks have bad bushes no question, take them off and go to your local suspension shop, you could buy a split poly bush or find a rubber one to push in.....but please check the shock condition before going any further.
By the way you should have one thick washer on the inside ,that will help,it least that is how my car is,cheers.

Thanks. re the one thick washer on the inside That's what I was thinking but I couldn't see one in the parts diagram. Even with new bushes it's going to need something more.

There were no original RHD 914s, all were conversions. A handful were done when the cars were new, and a few were done on an individual basis afterwards. Crayford's in the UK did most of the when-new conversions.

Thanks Dave. Crayfords did eleven RHD conversions in its time. 2 were for owners outside the UK and this is one of them. It was converted as a new car and was owned by a pharmacist in Double Bay, Sydney. I have a folder of documents from those days. It has changed hands a few times since then and I have owned if for 6 years.
