74 914 has spark but wont startwith out starting fluid

car sat for a year any ideas on how to get her running

Might want to provide a few more details, like what's stock and what's not, FI vs. carbs, was it running well a year ago, does it stay running, etc. etc. Otherwise, all I would suggest would be: replace gas, get injectors cleaned and replace hoses (assuming it's FI), check timing, adjust valves, check fuel pressure...

If still injected, a 74 could have L-jet (1.8) or D-jet (2.0) which are somewhat different as well.

If it starts with starting fluid, it sounds like you're not getting enough (or any) fuel. Look for unplugged wires, as a start.

My 914 had the injectors (all 4) plugged when I bought it.
