Hello
I have to change my speedo cable on my 1973 914. Can you suggest me the easiest way to proceed ? Thanks ! Philippe |

I pulled mine out into the engine bay, working from underneath the car. I think I had already removed the center console from my car, so access to that part of the routing was a lot easier. I pulled it out from behind the dash, then pulled it through the clamps and such in the center tunnel to right in front of the seats, then was able to pull it the rest of the way from the engine bay side.
You have to unhook it from the speedo, of course. Just pull the speedo out and unscrew the cable holder on the back to remove the cable. There may be easier ways to do the job, but this worked for me. --DD

I've only changed out a couple of them, but I'll share my experience any ways.
The easiest way is to attach your new cable to your old cable (tape, string ect.) and pull the old cable out through the passenger compartment. Of course this is done after you pull the carpet up and everything to unfasten the clamps that hold everything in place. It should pull through really easily if you got all the clamps – if it feels like there is a hold up you probably missed a clamp. This is at max. a 30 minute job. -Kevin |
