Lug studs on my 914
Long time lurker, finally getting my car back on the road (last driven in '07), anyway motor has been rebuilt, fuel system cleaned, brakes redone and flushed, but my lug studs are unusual... Notice is say studs and not bolts - see pics. I have one stripped lug nut and one that is frozen onto the stud. Has anyone encountered these before? any idea on replacement availability? they look a lot like 911 lug nuts..
Thanks in advance, Monty '75 914, 2.0 (96mm pistons dual carbs) ![]() ![]() |

My 914 came with a set of those studs in place of the wheel bolts. I will admit that they made mounting wheels easier, but they were a pain in the posterior in the end. One or two would come out with the nut every time I took off a wheel, even though I used the strongest LockTite available to hold it in place. And one stud consistently stripped threads off the wheel bolt for that location. I can't be sure if that was due to a slightly bent wheel or a belt flange or just because it was determined to cause me problems.
In the end, I ended up replacing them with bolts which all worked as they were supposed to. Larry Former 914 owner. |

Ditto. My first 914 came with those screw-in studs, and when they started pulling the threads out of the hubs I finally ditched them.
