Please enlighten me. Injection or carbs???
I have Dellorto's on my car now & have all the parts to convert to injection. Car runs great w/ the carbs. Starts & idles fine, passes emmisions, no problems. Mileage isn't as good as it could be w/ injection. My last car was a 74 1.8 w/ injection. Had a few problems w/ hot start & stall, Temp sensor, fuel pump, relay pack. Which system gives you the most performance? Mark Acosta 73 2.0 ![]() |

Injected Liquid Natural Gas would be the way to go.
Seriously, I wouldn't even ask this question until reading all 365,589,562 posts on the subject. Karl P |

Yeah, OK, this topic has been chewed to death, but here's a sligthly different take on the question.
I'll risk the flames and say that FI has more sensor inputs (plus engine performance "maps" and even O2 feedback on newer systems) to work with and will thus deliver a more accurate and customizable fuel mixture. How many new cars are designed with carbs today? What I believe drives a lot of people to carbs especially on vintage 914's is the fact that FI systems are a frustrating and expensive b!tch to troubleshoot if they act up. FI is an electromechanical system (emphasis on the electro) not easily diagnosed without electrical test equipment, which not all of us have or are comfortable using. Carbs, on the other hand, are pure gearhead nirvana. Add to that the cryptic service documentation available for the original 914 FI (if you can find it), and no wonder guys ditch the FI for carbs at the first sign of trouble.

I've been screwing around with my 73 1.7 FI ever since I changed the 2.0 injectors's to 1.7's cause I felt the PO put in what was handy! I've had trouble ever since... but I've compiled a whole lot of knowledge and respect for these lil cars. I just need to know where to direct the knowledge and maybe it'll run good!

Carbs, to me, are purest black magic. Air goes from here to there, and magically the fuel jumps into the air stream and atomizes itself. Uhhhh, suuuuure. It's all in what you're used to. Carbs were all there was for a long time, but anything that's come out in the last 20 years has been injected. I predict a lot more questions in the next decade about converting old, hard-to-diagnose carbs to new simple fuel injection... --DD

Well, OK, maybe not nirvana and, there aren't really any gears in those things either. But you don't need 12 volts to run one either...

Sweater's car is lite
So hampsters are the effecient way to go. Last month I went to see his car. Best way to describe it is, It's a "NO car". No interior no engine no wiring no lights no fenders no wheels no suspension.
