Paint Scheme (graphics)
I'm thinking of something along the lines (no pun) of this for the 914. Probably just one set up the middle. Comments? Seen something better?

Do that the width of your air intake opening and it should look mean. Your car looks like it might bite now.

I've gotta agree with scott and drew365. A black with red stripe, the width of the air intake opening. That would look bad a$$!! (although, after seeing how the silver turned out on your car, I'm thinking that my car needs to be that color).

Another Martini car would be cool! The silver will set it off from Scott S's car just enough. and I lust after his (do a search for Martini).
Love the look as is too, BTW.

I say go for it. Just get someone other than me to do the paintwork.

The stripes look great. Remember you have to put numbers on there too and they have to be big enough for the timing folks at Willows to read them. I'd paint the rockers and the short area behind the rear wheels satin black as they will get beat up from the track stones, etc.

I always liked the Martini color schemes, on Porsches and other makes such as the Lancia sprorts-racers and Brabham and Lotus F1's. One of my favorites was the Porsche 935-78 Moby Dick from LeMans 78. It used the Martini stripes, but instead of straight lines it used a scalloped pattern. Very nice.

Paul, I am convinced that I will do it based on your model. John, I had planned on natural carbon fibre rockers to lend a sense of contrast and, as you say, be impervious to stone damage. Also, the modified instrument hood is planned to be CF as well. Thanks for the input, guys. It's nice that a community like this can participate in each other's projects. OK, big group hug now

Personally I do not think the Martini color scheme works with the silver background. Too much blue. That photoshop picture, painted by a previous poster illustrates the problem (Paul: nice work by the way). Note that the original Martini color scheme was painted on a white background.
I have to concede, I think your silver looks bad-ass as it is. If you must paint a racing stripe I would consider a wide black stripe with a thiner red band on top. |

Thanks for the welcome, Scott. I knew you'd show up sooner or later. I won't use the Martinti logo, but I will somewhat copy the look. I would not hesitate one minute to install the bolt on flares ala 934 that you have. Most GTs and 916s that I've seen pictures of have them bonded on or welded (steel). The bolted look is the real bada$$! (Now where is that sawzall?)
Douglas, I have seen a TV commercial for the 996 that has the Martini colors on Artic Silver. That is the car I would copy, but I haven't seen the commercial since Sept. or so. |

I'm not too convinced by the martini stripes
If I were you, I'd paint the bumpers and rockers in an off color I really like the layout of the Audi factory LeMans cars (silver and red, silver and yellow and silver and black) Accents in "viper" green would be cool too... I also like this layout: Cheers, Jeroen |

That is excellent, Paul. This is going to happen!
Jeroen, are those NACA ducts behind the doors? Someone asked yesterday if that had been done. |

Now I'm really starting to rethink my color choice...
I was going to repaint the car back to it's original yellow (kinda red now) but that silver with Martini stripes looks killer (or is that hella?). I just love Scotts car, I wish I had seen it when I drove through Colorado this summer. Hmmm, well I have time to descide.

I think the 911 based cars were primarly white. I do think the silver looks really mean - very, very cool. Zeke - If you decide to go that route and would like to add the logos, I am pretty sure the guy who did mine has them saved in the computer. I would be happy to hook you up with him. Another available logo was offered by GT Racing. It is the circular logo that you can see on the rear quarter behind the number on the silver car that Paul posted.

Here is a 911. This is the picture I pulled the colors, hood number blank, logo's, etc off of when I did mine.
I came very close to painting my front bumper red...

The RSR (74 maybe??) with the "Queen Anne collar" tail (a duck-tail with extensions on the fenders) was silver and had Martini livery, at least at some point. There have been pics in Panorama and elsewhere of it that way.
