914-6 engine oil cooler
If I understand correctly, the 914-6 engine cooler is a slightly modified version of the standard 911 engine oil cooler. I think there is a 90 degree fitting on it or something along that line.
Can someone please clarify/explain this. Can one take a 911 engine oil cooler and cut off and weld a new fitting to make it functional for the 914-6 engine/oiling system. Is there a certain year cooler I need to look for or are all the coolers the same? This will be for a 3.0L motor. Thanks,

Dave,
I checked the section, and it really only talks about the two types of oil tanks and associated lines and accessories, but not really about the engine oil cooler itself. Unless I'm missing something. Happy Holidays...

BAsicly, the cooler is modified so the intake fitting faces fwd.

So to answer my question...
Since I am building a motor from a longblock and need a cooler from my six conversion, I can pick up a good used Behr engnie oil cooler from a 911 and have it modified? Right? Thanks for the help! Happy Holidays,

Ayup, Otto's did mine. Bout a buck 50. They clean and test, do flawless work, and have good service.
Or... You can saw it off and hose clamp a piece of radiator hose on there.

Since the line is the oil feed to the motor from the tank, a 90 degree AN 16 fitting is welded onto the 911 oil cooler of my 3.2 motor. Then, a SS AN 16 lines go to the aftermarket oil tank. Maybe over-kill, but it works.
The trick is to insure that the fitting does not stick out too far and hit the trailing arm. Instead of using AN fittings, another option is to use the S hose from a 911 to connect the oil cooler. As mentioned earlier, you will still need to cut off the end of the cooler inlet pipe.

What Jim says is true.
For an OEM tank, it's easiest to stick with metric threads. Which do you have?

I had my cooler modified by Patrick Motorsports to pick up an AN-16 line.
FWIW, Pegasus sells a couple of AN-to-Porsche adapters specifically for oil cooler setups; you may be able to avoid the welding. But to Jim's point, you'll have to be careful about clearances.

I have a factory tank, and I will also be running an external cooler in the front.
