You mean the Spanish cast ones?
They are commonly used on BMW sixes for replacements and are said to be atleast equal quality to OEM. Do they make TIV-P 2.0 heads?

I have an AMC head on my 1977 BMW 530I. The early E12's had a big exhaust manifold with thermoreactor inside. (thermo head cracker) The excessive heat right on the head caused the factory heads to crack. BMW recalled all the 6 cylinders that had this manifold design no questions asked. The heads were replaced with a far superior Spanish casting. I didn't know they made heads for the type IV.

I've heard the valves and seats are crap and must be replaced. I think Jake Raby uses these, with new valves and seats, on some of his engines.
I could be wrong, it's been known to happen, lol. I have no experiance with them, other than I picked a set up and looked at them, at one of the VW shows. The casting 'looks' OK. |

I bought these as 1.8l but discovered after my post that they have been machined to 2.0. They look great but I don't know if I want to do a 2.0 conversion.

Get a 1.8 big bore kit, the cylinders should be the same OD as the 2.0...someone correct me if I'm wrong..........

They are okay, just treat them like they are 30 year old castings and they work great.....I don't ever use their seats, valves, hardware, springs or anything except the bare castings..
Their seats are worse than the factory heads..

And they don't make 914/2.0 heads.
![]() Sigh! I believe that Pelican can get these heads as well. --DD
