no start
Just took my '72 2.0 out for a "spirited" drive, shut it off in my driveway, and now it won't start. Prior to today, I had not driven the car for about a week and a half...it started just fine b4 the drive. Now I get no "click", no nothin'. Anybody have any ideas? Did my starter just go kaput? Any help appreciated.
Thanks Brian |

Brian,
Since it was a spirited drive, you might want to start with the obvious: 1) Check fuses. 2) Check ground and Pos cables at battery for tight, clean fit. 3) Check connections at starter solenoid for same. 4) Check ground from tranny to bottom of trunk. 5) Check the relays on the circuit board. After that you could check the following: 1) Ignition switch is faulty 2) Starter/solenoid is faulty Its a place to start. Good luck,

Brian,
When you say it goes "click" do you mean the starter clicks, or just the ignition switch? Do the lights and stuff work? Due to an intermittent problem with the ignition switch mine does that once in a while. Nothing clicks at all but the ignition switch. Lights and everything work, it just won't do anything on the starter side of things. If that's your issue, sometimes if you push in on the key while turning it will will get it proper contact and it will start up. As usual I have the new switch just too lazy these days to take the steering wheel off and change it out.

I second 3d914's post, Im thinking its the ground, I had that same problem, me and my dad took it for a test drive, and he turned it off 4 blocks from my house and i went to start it and well nothing... we tryed to push start it, but my dad kinda didnt do it right (of all the things he can do.. sheesh) so we just pushed it home.. i went under and wiggled all the wires, made sure they all had good contact with some sand paper (also disconnected the battery) started sometimes, not that good. so then i ran a gound wire (big thick one, only one the FLAPS had), got everything ready and fired the sucker right up, surprized me cus it fired on the first crank of the starter.
If it works then its a 5 dollar fix. If it doesnt then you know its not the ground Good luck to ya
