				engine/trnasmission/ exhaust weight

About to drop the motor in the 914-1.8. I am planning to drop w/transmission and exhaust attached as I only need to remove one head and re-tap the spark plug hole. Any idea of the combined weight?

Less than 600 lbs. Probably more than 400 lbs. More than I can lift on my own, but doable with one or two strong friends. The bare motor can be lifted by two moderately-strong guys. --DD

I seem to remember the 911 + box is around 500lbs so it sounds like you are about right Dave, the T4 motor is fairly heavy when compared to the T1. The first T4 I did with a friend who had a VW shop promply fell off the jack on to my foot,no injury due to steel capped boots, that prompted me to make a base adaptor for his trolley jack, easy and safer after that . The sump on these motors is hardly what you would call flat. Would it make more sense to remove the box after supporting the engine I wonder?
