74 914 Project different frnt rotors
I have a 74 914 project car, when I took the front brakes apart I noticed that they are not the same size, one hub is about 1/2" deeper than the other side. l'm guessing that one side is early 69-73?
Which is which? and is this some thing I should change? |

The later hubs that came on your car have a centering ring for the wheel. The early rotors do not. Can possibly post a picture of each tonight.
Do your calipers have one or two bleeders? One bleeder is an early, two is the later style. I am told that the later strut is different than the early, but have never jigged one to measure it.

The deeper hub is the later hub. The earlier hub will have a smaller caliper, different brake dust shield and likely a different strut. The early strut will have a pinch bolt that holds the ball joint on. The later strut will have a tapered bolt and nut that fits into a grove on the ball joint shaft.
