FI trigger points?

I have a '74 2.0L with a slight problem somewhere in the FI system. The car runs a little rough and the #2 sparkplug has a bit of build up and fuel consumption is high (need to replace the Head Temp Sensor). The cylinder is firing (w/ plug wire removed, engines runs worse). Could I have a bad injector? Should I check the FI contacts in the dizzy? Any thoughts would be appreciated. Also, have pointless ignition. Had the same problem before installation.

Since two injectors fire at a time, it may be the elec. conn. or it could be the injector is leaking. Try removing them and watching the spray pattern/leakage/etc. If they are old, gunk could be causing one to leak by badly. Make sure the engine is COLD before doing this and have a couple of extinguishers handy.

Check your coil! I just had similer rough running problems with my 1.7 with pointless ignition. I checked everything in the fuel injection and could not figure it out. I finally traced it to the coil, wich was actually starting to leak weird goo. I too thought that it might have been a cylinder head temp sender because it got worse as the car heated up. While your at it you might as well clean up the fuel injection trigger points as it is easy to do and couldn't hurt.
