cold start valve bypassed?

Hey guys,

Ok, so I cleaned out my injectors and they work great now. I thought I would go ahead and clean out the cold start valve. When I found it, I saw it was plugged in but the fuel lines were connected in a loop........It was about a 7in tube that went from one side of the CSV to the other side. No clamps, just hose.

My question is shouldn't the cold start valve be in the same fuel line as the injectors, the hose between injector 2 and 3?

I wanted to take it out to clean but getting to the bottom screw is about impossible.

Please correct me if I am wrong.

Yes, the CSV should be in the high-pressure fuel loop, just like the injectors. IIRC, in a 1.7 the CSV has two fuel connections on it, so it basically goes in between the left fuel rail and the fuel pressure regulator. (The 2.0 CSV has only one fuel fitting, and it gets connected to a port in the middle of the left-side fuel rail.)

That said, the CSV is not the most critical of components. It should only ever open while the starter is cranking, and even then only when it is "cold enough" (below 40F or below freezing, depending on which source you believe or possibly which version you have).

The car should run fine without it, but may be a little harder to start when it is very cold out.
