Power windows, locks?

Has anyone done this? I have a site that sells universal kits for low coin. I just wanted to know if it has been satisfactorally, and successfully done.
Thanks

I think I remember a post long ago about someone that put in power windows but it was a nitemare due to the old fashion raising mechanism we have. The had problem with the amount of amps the system needed and had to use the larger camper alt and wire harness to get all to work. Good luck

I am planning to put in power locks. The kits to do this are inexpensive and the actuators are powerful enough to move the old lock mechanism.

Ya, I found a two window kit with three switches for $90, and an auto door lock set at the same place for $41. If I can get enough power to this stuff it will be great IMHO. I dont like buicks.

Mike95125, me either! But they already have power windows & locks. Problem is, they always seem to be full of people with blue hair and are always in the way.

Mike, if I remember right the custom v.w. mags had power window units for sale... take the crank off and put the motor housing over the spline. Kinda ugly though.

Mike,

Chris Prim (cp914@lvcm.com) make a power window kit that uses high quality german motors and supplies the hardware to fit a 914. My car's undergoing a six conversion at aircooled racing. You can see it here:

Steve at aircooled said it went in, no fuss, no muss. Chris has a website: 914turbo. I'd love a set of his twin beam projector conversion kits, and put HIDs in the low beams, but he says they aren't ready for production yet...

That is the same kit at www.autodax.com, but it is $90 there. I saw those kits for sale on ebay a while ago, and investigated just to fing that someone placed "instructions" for a 914 in the box, and charged $212. I am sure that I can mannage to get the kit on the dax site to work if I have enough power (AMPS).

I picked up a window kit with switches for about $100.

Just take your time and do a good wiring diagram and think two steps ahead of where your at. Don't forget the door loom situation and the possible door panel mods.

I'll try to take some photo's of my install and post them here if you guys want to see them.

I also did the door lock thingy and it works okay. The door mechanics needed to be cleaned and regreased to alow the actuator to function. All you need is some actuators, relays, switches, time, and more time to test fit them.

I ended up adding another fuse block behind my L front speaker to accomodate the additional devices.

#1 tip.............Draw out a COMPLETE wiring diagram of every additional system. It will make you install soooo much easier.

I would like to hear fo an alt upgrade for the 914. I wouldn't mind a few more amps

Best of luck
Kerry

I would like to see pics. Also no one has said what the 914 alt is rated at. Anything else you can add on this is greatly apreciated.

The automatic door locks sounds like a great idea for the 914 since it would reduce wear on tear on the weak (and expensive) exterior door handles.

Nominally, the 914 alternator is a 50-amp unit. I hear that one of the late Bus alternators is a 70-amp one, but I don't have any further info (like how to tell which one it is). I know that your local boom-boom stereo shop can usually rewind your alternator to put out more current.

Of course, any time you generate more current you are losing more HP to do it...
