A/C Compressor engages but No Cold Air...
My compressor turns on but no cold air blowing ? Some say check the evaporator others say something else. One smart old man said to me " replace all the a/c components and eliminate the guess work." No, really . That was my short response , the long version can't be posted. But that old man will think twice on giving me advise. lol . Help...... It's hot in Florida, need my a/c working ('87 924 s).

Do you have any air flowing across the evaporator? Across the condenser? Have you recently done any service work on the system or added any freon to it?
You'll need to put a gauge set on your system and tell us what the high and low side pressures are doing with the system running in order to tell anything. If you don't have gauges or any expertise, take it to an ac shop. Last edited by Spring44; 04-01-2019 at 03:41 PM.. |

Thank you Spring44
My friend has the gauges but where's the high pressure line? Not sure of any flow of freon? I guess first I'll get some numbers and post them tomorrow or go to an A/C shop which I'm trying to avoid here in Florida. |

A few years ago, a few members had vent problems. Leaking vacuum hoses or vent tabs broken on early 944s and 924S.
Griffiths has a good read: https://griffiths.com/ac-system-help-introduction/troubleshoot-the-ac-system/ OR Clarks Garage: Clark's Garage Home Page More information is needed to better help-type of Freon in system, pressure high and low, previous work done... Only 85 degrees in PHX today, just added a little R134A to my '87... J_AZ

There should be a sight glass in the top of the receiver-drier, on the drivers side of the radiator, where you can observe the flow of freon in the system. Last edited by Spring44; 04-02-2019 at 08:39 AM.. |

A/C Compressor engages but No Cold Air.....
Good morning, after removing some Freon from the high side, I noticed the air was getting cold but the gauge on the A/C Pro bottle was in the Red still. So I went to the low pressure side and removed some more. Now I'm below the normal amount so I added some Freon that got me back to the Red on the gauge. So I gave up went to my friends shop used his A/C gauge and the reading I got was 30 for low and 30 for high? He mention the Expansion valve and a weak compressor may be faulty and needs changing.
My friend doesn't do German foreign cars and suggested an A/C shop that's local. So I'll wait until Friday and go to the A/C shop. |

just in case, have you checked the rod to the door in the cabin? Clips on mine broke which made so only hot air out the vents. Fixed it and VIOLA! Cold air

Hello finally, yes, I've checked the rods to the doors, and decided to take it to a local A/C shop fearing the rip-off is about to happen. But to my surprise, the fittings (low and high) for the 134 retro was put in reverse. So they were removed, reinstalled properly, system was vacuum and recharged, all for $100.00 bucks, I'm happy as a pig in ****. LOL

Man, it's hard to imagine how a competent ac tech would make an error like that on the fittings and it would be impossible to fully charge it going into the high pressure side (not to mention dangerous). Sounds like maybe the 134 conversion was done by that proverbial "prior owner".
