Review of Arnworx TB Rebuild Kit
Just for the heck of it, a quick review. I bought Bruce's TB rebuild kit a while back and tossed it on a shelf and forgot about it until last night. Since nothing much else going on, decided to rebuild the TB on my 924S since my idle hasn't been great since I got the car and still chasing an intermittent stalling issue, and vac leaks are always a good thing to take care of. And yeah, I'm sure I could piece together the kit for cheaper with a bit of effort, but it was a reasonable price and saved me hunting through my giant case of o-rings lol.
![]() ![]() Man, taking the TB of the Porsche is a pain in the ass compared to my e30 thanks to having "hidden" lower hoses and connectors that are hard to get to. Anyhow, once that was done, started taking things apart. The kit comes with printed instructions (which is way more convenient than just having them online) and they are well-written and accurate. ![]() The kit basically replaces the o-rings at both ends of the shaft (with new c-clips and a few other new parts), as well as the o-ring on the throttle position sensor and on a few other things. Upon taking out the old o-rings (the ones on the shaft are hidden behind some bearings and are tough to get to), I can see why. The shaft o-rings literally disintegrated into tiny pieces falling on my floor as I tried to get them out ![]() So yeah, guess they weren't sealing much of anything. The other O-rings weren't much better. So, got that stuff in, cleaned things up and installed. My air valve was nasty, so cleaned that up as well. Anyhow, once reinstalled, I had to wait a day to turn the car on (in the garage under my kids' bedroom). So tonight I did, and it fired up faster than it ever has before, that I can recall. Pretty much immediately. I haven't gotten a chance to actually drive the car yet, but the idle is much smoother and at a constant 900rpm (used to hunt around 600-1200 when cold idling), so seems to have done the trick in terms of sealing some vacuum leak(s). Will update once I've driven to see if there's any driving difference. Last edited by irish44j; 04-11-2019 at 05:21 PM.. |

Very cool. Please report on the drive once you get a chance.

I used the same kit to rebuild my TB last fall and my experience was very similar. Those tiny O-rings on the shaft were broken on mine also...hey they lasted (sort of) for 30+ years! The one thing I remember that I took special note of was adjusting the alignment of the throttle position sensor. You should hear it "click" when the throttle plate is closed. And it should click again when the throttle plate begins to open. That was something I didn't know about before. I doubt it was properly adjusted before this. Overall it's a good kit, with good instructions, and with all the pieces you need. Now I know that all the O-rings and gaskets are new and allows you to really clean out the TB.

I've used it on three other 944/951's and it's a good kit with good instructions. Only thing I recommend is to mark the butterfly plate with a magic marker so you always get the orientation right. A real pain if you don't. It does take a few days of moving the throttle shaft and sitting overnight to remove the stiffness. I also sprayed the rubber seals with silicone spray to make the install easier.
