924S Power Steering Problem?

I've suddenly developed erratic power steering - it works normally for a few seconds and then seems to fail for a couple of seconds, then kicks in again.
I've got 88k on the car, with no obvious sign of problems with the PS rack. I flushed the pump & changed the fluid today; the pump seems to be working, belt is OK but the fault still remains.
Any ideas? I wonder if the pump is moving fluid, but can't cope with the "demand" when I turn the wheel!

I had the same problem with my 87 944. It turned out that the tension arm that holds the power steering pump agains the belt. It could look okay if you don't look closely, check it out.
